Hi All – its 5:45pm. We’ve been back since 3pm. I needed a couple hours to decompress from the most amazing morning of my life before updating everyone. So, miss Caily-Grace is one very very healthy little/big girl. When we arrived at the orphanage she was sleeping and her nanny woke her up, sat her up and we just stared at each other. Her eyes are so deep brown – like liquid vanilla. And her lips are amazing. Angelina eat your heart out lips.
She was pretty stunned with all the activity and me staring at her and smiling. I could almost hear her mind working: “Hey, who is this crazy white beast and why is she looking like she wants to eat me?” I tried to make her laugh with my uncle fester imitation and it totally freaked her out. Poor little on. Her nanny was fantastic and clearly very much in love with her. They have been together since day 1. We spent 2 full hours together and, through an interpreter, told me all about Caily (Hao). What she eats (everything); how often (7 x a day); her sleep patterns (9pm-7am with 2 naps); how to change her diaper; what she doesn’t like (to be held); etc…
She is clearly very attached to her nanny and they were adorable together. It broke my heart to think of tomorrow when they have to say goodbye to each other. We took lots of pictures for Caily to have so she’ll remember her forever. I also asked the nanny to write a letter to Caily – which she did. How special that will be. She also gave caily a little bracelet that will have a special place in her life I’m sure.
After about 30 mintues the nanny put Caily in my lap and it was like she’s been there all my life. She just snuggled right in and played with the toys we brought for her. After about 90 minutes we were interacting pretty easily. She was enthralled with a pen and kept sharing it with me – like she knows I like to write. Then I introduced her to an iphone/pod and it was game over. She loved it!!! A budding techy perhaps? We shared a really special moment playing with this. At one point she got up and started walking across the bed to her nanny, then turned around and came and plopped back with me. That one little U-turn will be imprinted on my brain forever!!! I can only hope that it’s the first of many more.
Miranda and the boys were amazing! I will never be able to thank them enough for coming with me. Ethan and Graydon got to see something pretty special. Watching them watching Caily was really special. I’m looking forward to them getting to know her over the next few weeks – they will be fantastic big sometimes brothers. I hope they will remember this day for the rest of her life so they can share they impressions with her. That will be so special for her.
Miranda was a rock for me. She had video and photo detail and has taken some great shots. Boy I don’t think I could have done this alone. I probably would have shown up today in my pj’s or at least with my clothes on backwards and mumbling something about “advocacy tips and techniques” or “results based management”…. Miranda has been very subtly making sure my shoes are on, my sugar levels are good and that the odd pint of beer shows up at the right moment (ok, not this morning but definitely as I was zoned out in a deck chair around 3:10).
More to come later. I have to go shopping for formula and diapers. Wow!!!
