Bus ride back to the hotel

This was the one moment I have been dreading for months.  I figured Caily would be completely freaked out and in shock.   I am writing this 2 days after the event so I realize that she probably was (because I now know that her personality is sooooo vivacious)  but at the time I was stunned that she was so relaxed.

I have to give a big shout out to David, Rachael and Nathan who taught me the value of a container of cheerios and Taline who gave me a bottle of puffed rice treats.  I hate to say that I won my daughter’s heart through her stomach, but these little pieces of sanity did wonders for our immediate bonding.  When she said “mmm” and smiled at me I thought I would bust.  I had been saying that it was my hope that she’d smile and laugh with my by the end of our trip – to have it happen within minutes of her being with me was unbelievable ( ok, now I’m crying again).  Is there anything more wonderful than a child laughing with you?   Well, ok having her actually fall asleep in my lap was pretty wonderful too.  I thought I’d died and gone to heaven… and it just keeps getting better with each minute.
